These photos were taken in Jiu Zhai Gou in October 2001 with an Olympus zoom 105 and a Minolta Riva Zoom 75W. Despite the ephemerality of our stay there, the beauty of this heavenly place has carved its permanence in our memories. MH had originally posted these pictures on his personal website which is no longer available online. I have retained most of the captions and included an excerpt of his introduction here:
â??In legend, JIUZHAIGOU - literally, Nine-Gully Valley - was formed by a celestial mirror that was shattered into smithereens, the crystal shards transforming into a profusion of awesomely clear lakes and thundering waterfalls. For a moment in October 2001, just as the land burst into a riot of colours, those stories came true for me during my visit to Jiuzhaigou.
How did Nature bequeath such heart-aching beauty and tranquility to a secluded valley in Northern Sichuan? And how fortunate was I indeed to have chanced upon this blessing!
One may sample some of the same joy I had in the images presented, but I cannot completely share or convey it by mere voyeurismâ?¦â??

In the second pic, MH was home late for dinner. Instead of blocking the door to prevent him from entering (which is what I normally do), I decided to "flash" at him. Kinda like the effect it created esp with that smile.
